Paper TitleEmily Dickinson in the Fiewfinder of Chinese Poetics
Abstract:A careful study of Emily Dickinson reveals her not so unique and less American to Chinese readers. The correspondence between Emily Dickinson and Chinese people is not only confined to culture at large, but also in particular poems.
The similarities between Emily Dickinson and Chinese culture and poetry are so many and intimate that she seems an old acquaintance from the past and afar, or even a kinwoman in disguise. The similarities must have originated in a higher conincedence. And this higher coincidence must be in poetics that guides poetry writing. In the paper I would like to examine Emily Dickinson within the reference frame of Chinese poetics
