The field of Languages in Contact has grown a great deal over the past 50 years. From the early studies, an Index of Receptivity has been posited for languages which more readily accept borrowings. The study of the receptivity of borrowed words, especially those from International English, provides some interesting case studies for the Index of Receptivity. This paper contrasts some major languages such as English, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese and the paper discusses some recent developments in field of language borrowing.
