Grawemeyer winners to be named starting Nov. 30

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The University of Louisville and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary will announce winners of the 2010 Grawemeyer Awards Nov. 30-Dec. 4.

The annual international cash prizes recognize outstanding ideas and works in music composition, world order, psychology, education and religion. UofL and the seminary present the religion award jointly.

Louisville industrialist, entrepreneur and UofL graduate Charles Grawemeyer created the awards program in 1984. Since then, more than $14 million has gone to 107 winners.

The 2010 winners will be announced on the following schedule:

  • Music Composition, Monday, Nov. 30
  • Ideas Improving World Order, Tuesday, Dec. 1
  • Psychology, Wednesday, Dec. 2
  • Education, Thursday, Dec. 3
  • Religion, Friday, Dec. 4

Award winners for 2009 were composer Brett Dean, political scholar Michael Johnston, psychologist Anne Treisman, education researchers Paul Attewell and David Lavin, and ethicist Donald Shriver Jr.
