THREE U OF L PROFS WIN FULBRIGHT AWARDS
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three University of Louisville faculty members have received prestigious Fulbright Scholar grants to lecture at foreign universities in 2005-2006. They are:
- Julie Bunck, associate professor of political science, who will lecture on U.S.-Latin American politics at the University of Colima in Colima, Mexico.
- Michael Fowler, associate professor of political science, who will lecture on American studies at the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan.
- Allen Furr, associate professor and chair of sociology, who will lecture on demography, family and urban and development at Punjabi University in Chandigarh, India.
Established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the Fulbright Scholar program is aimed at building mutual understanding between the United States and other nations. The awards go to recipients with outstanding academic or professional achievements who also have demonstrated extraordinary leadership potential in their fields.
Bunck, Fowler and Furr are among a group of 850 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad to some 150 countries in the coming academic year through the program.
