U of L Building $41 Million Research Facility

Tiny devices that help doctors diagnose disease are among the 21st century technologies that will be developed in a new research building under construction on U of L's Belknap Campus.

The 106,000-square-foot, $41-million Belknap Research Building will bring together more than 40 researchers throughout the university who are conducting studies in nanotechnology, biomechanics, cellular biology, physics, cancer and genetics. Included in the building will be the state's largest controlled-environment laboratory, or cleanroom, for the fabrication, packaging and testing of microelectronic devices and circuits.

Funding comes from the state of Kentucky, federal support secured by Sen. Mitch McConnell, bonds and private donations.
