Brown Cancer Center dedicates Humana Multidisciplinary Clinic

A script is not available for this story but here is key information about the Humana Multidisciplinary Clinic at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center.

U of L President Dr. Jim Ramsey

"Humana literally has been a partner of and believer in the mission of the Cancer Center from day one. Support from the Humana Medical Improvement Fund has allowed the Center to leverage funds from other sources for faculty recruitment and research, to strengthen clinical programs, and to launch cancer education and prevention initiatives."

The company's support has helped draw some of the nation's top researchers to the cancer center, said director Dr. Donald Miller.

Humana's donations helped boost the cancer center's volume of research to $29 million at the end of last year, a five-fold increase since 2000, university officials said.

Michael B. McCallister, president and chief executive officer of Humana, thanked University of Louisville leaders for recognizing Humana and The Humana Foundation, and praised the university for its long-standing commitment to cancer research.

"Throughout Humana's history, improving public health has been a cause we have cared about and worked passionately to achieve. In the Louisville area, in Kentucky, across the nation and around the world, Humana has demonstrated our capacity to think innovatively about how best to impact the lives of the people we serve. U of L's investment in and support for the James Graham Brown Cancer Center means a great deal to our community and our region. I'm proud that Humana's been in a position to support the Center for so many years."

Dedication of the clinic is part of a series of events aimed at recognizing primary contributors to the cancer center's $41.5 fund-raising campaign. The effort was mounted to help U of L's center achieve National Cancer Institute designation as a comprehensive cancer center.
