Partnership for a Green City

Dr. Stephen Daeschner, JCPS Superintendent

A green city--- JCPS, Metro Government and U of L. We've approved an MOA to allow our organizations to purchase paper and eventually other products, such as cleaning products. The bid will be taken in a week and a half. It will cover over million reems of recycled white paper copy.

Dr. Jim Ramsey, U of L President

At the University of Louisville we talk a lot about partnerships. What we're trying to do in developing our partnerships is prove at a time of tough resources, scarce resources that one plus one can equal three. So developing partnerships is part of our strategic initiative.

Jerry Abramson, Louisville Metro Mayor

We formed the partnership one year ago to improve the quality of life in this community, increase environmental education in this community, and save resources in this community and save tax payer dollars by combining our purchasing power. We'll open bids next week to combine our recycling copy paper contracts. This could save the partners up to $45,000 just by increasing the usage of recycled paper.

Dr. Jim Ramsey continues

People from all our shops come together, work together. The purchasing initiative is one example of that. It's an important thing not just in terms of financial savings, but in terms of the environmental impact. For us the great benefit is coming together with JCPS and Metro Government and find out what they're doing and take their ideas back to the University of Louisville and see how they can help us.
