U of L does well on Kentucky Plan

March 4th, 2005

The University of Louisville has met, surpassed or made progress on all eight of its goals under the Kentucky Plan for Equal Opportunities, according to the Council on Postsecondary Education.

The plan sets goals for the state’s public universities for African American student enrollment, retention and graduation. It also sets goals for employment of African Americans in managerial, faculty and other administrative posts.

“We are pleased to have met all eight objectives set for us in the Kentucky Plan,” said U of L President James Ramsey. “This effort is one sign that the administration, faculty and staff at this university take diversity seriously. Of course, we can’t be satisfied; this is an ongoing effort and one that we must focus on each and every day.”

U of L was one of three universities to meet, exceed or make progress on all of its goals. This achievement means the university is automatically eligible to submit new programs for CPE approval in 2005.

The Kentucky Plan for Equal Opportunities took effect in 1997 and is designed to ensure equal opportunity of access to and success in higher education at the state’s public colleges and universities.

It is the third plan the CPE has put in place since 1982. The first two plans (1982 and 1990) were designed to remove all vestiges of segregation among the public colleges and universities.
