Trustees praise Ramsey for 2004-05 performance

The University of Louisville Board of Trustees praised President James Ramsey’s performance in 2004-05 at its regular meeting July 14.
The board praised Ramsey for achieving 21 of 22 goals established by the board last year. Examples of that success include:
- Attaining all eight goals in the Kentucky Plan, the only state institution to achieve that during the past year
- Raising $65 million in new private contributions to enhance U of L’s quest to become a preeminent metropolitan research university
- Elevating the university research program to achieve accreditations customary at premier national research universities
- Serving as a leader in the higher education community to communicate effectively to the General Assembly the strategic importance of higher education to the commonwealth.
The board also noted “with enthusiasm” the dedication of the president’s wife, Jane Ramsey, in supporting the university. In particular, they praised her leadership of a beautification committee that has “sparked numerous compliments from students, alumni, neighbors and many others about the transformation of the Belknap Campus.”
In other action, the board approved:
- creation of the Institute for Democracy and Development, an entity that will promote research and help draw federal funding to the Department of Political Science.
- creation of a bachelor of science/master of engineering in bioengineering degree at the Speed School of Engineering
- implementation of a master plan for the Shelby Campus.
