University Theater announces 2005-06 season

University Theater at the University of Louisville has announced a 2005-06 theater season that will offer classics and contemporary comedies and dramas, including two of the theater arts department’s African American Theater Program productions.
The plays are:
- “The Face of Emmett Till,” African American Theater Program production of a Mamie Till Mobley and David Barr III play marking the 50th anniversary of a 14-year-old boy’s death that helped spark the civil rights movement, Playhouse, Sept. 28-Oct. 2.
- “Night Sky,” a Susan Yankowitz play chronicling a brilliant astronomer’s inner quest to regain her voice after an accident leaves her unable to speak, Thrust Theater, Oct. 26-30.
- “A Doll House,” the classic Henrik Ibsen piece of female independence in a male-dominated world, Playhouse, Nov. 16-20.
- “In the Blood,” an African American Theater Program production of Suzan-Lori Parks’ modernization of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “A Scarlet Letter” about a homeless, illiterate woman’s struggle to raise five children in a tough city, Thrust Theater, Feb. 1-5.
- “As Bees in Honey Drown,” Douglas Carter Beane’s modern comedy about America’s obsession with celebrity and fame’s sweet allure, Playhouse, March 1-5.
- “The Winter’s Tale,” William Shakespeare’s dark romance contrasting a jealous king’s bitter sadness with the joy of his daughter’s first love, Playhouse, April 19-23.
Plays begin at 8 nightly during their runs with additional 3 p.m. Sunday matinees. The Playhouse (1911 S. Third St.) is at Cardinal Boulevard and Third Street; the Thrust (2314 S. Floyd St.) is at Floyd and Warnock streets.
Season tickets cost $45 for the general public, $40 for U of L employees and people 65 or older, and $30 for students. Individual show tickets are $10, $9 and $7. Call the box office at 502-852-6814 for season ticket orders, individual show tickets, group discounts or reservations.
