Dr. Phil has left the building; so has his stuff

Phil Laemmle was MC at his Orderly Dispersal of Office Relics. The event raised about $10,000 for political science students.

Everything sold.

The clock with a hammer in it, a graphic statement for a student to quit watching the clock: $400.

A blow-up doll, a gift from a former president (don’t ask why): $475.

Phil Laemmle’s office is cleared of all the weird memorabilia he collected over his 34-year career at the University of Louisville:

All of it is gone, sold May 19 at a roast in his honor. In its place is $13,000 for the Phil Laemmle Political Science Student Fund. The money will buy computers and furniture for students in Laemmle’s former department and benefit them in other ways.

More than 300 former students and invited guests attended the Orderly Dispersal of Office Relics (ODOR) at U of L’s Red Barn. They were just a handful of the estimated 9,000 Laemmle taught and advised while at U of L and the 34,000 he greeted and addressed during freshmen orientation. Laemmle was one of the first professors students met when they came to U of L. As commencement ritualist, he also escorted them out at the end of their academic careers.
