Theater season runs gamut from ‘Romeo and Juliet’ to ‘Urinetown’

University Theater 2006-07 Season
All plays begin at 8 p.m. and have additional 3 p.m. Sunday matinees.
The Playhouse is at 1911 S. Third St., and Thrust is at 2314 S. Floyd St.
Season tickets are $45 for the general public, $40 for U of L employees and people 65 and older, and $30 for students. Individual show tickets are $10, $9 and $7. Box office: 502-852-6814.


The University Theater season opens in late September and runs through April. Six plays are scheduled. Here’s a brief overview:

“Blithe Spirit,” a Noel Coward comedy about a remarried widower’s encounter with his persistent wife’s ghost at a séance; Thrust Theater, Sept. 27–Oct. 1.

“King Hedley II,” an African American theater production staged in honor of late author August Wilson that follows a man’s struggles to make a living in the 1980s; Thrust Theater, Oct. 25–29.

“Romeo and Juliet,” William Shakespeare’s timeless drama about tragic love born of two warring families, Playhouse; Nov. 15–19.

Student-inspired adaptation project created from existing novel, short story, poetry or other sources; Thrust Theater, Jan. 31–Feb. 4.

“The Secret Language of Wishes,” an African American theater production of a new Cori Thomas play about tension between two women over adopting a disabled teenager; Playhouse, Feb. 28–March 5.

“Urinetown,” a Greg Kotis-Mark Hollmann musical about a town held hostage by a pay-toilet mogul during a severe drought; Playhouse, April 18–22.
