Faculty and staff give $334,530 to community through UofL Cares

December 1st, 2006

University of Louisville faculty, staff and retirees donated $334,530 through UofL Cares, an employee giving campaign that takes place each October.

The campaign raises funds for four organizations that make a difference in the Louisville Metro community — Metro United Way, Fund for the Arts, WHAS Crusade for Children and UofL.

The campaign goal was $300,000, said Dwight Dozier, interim associate vice president for advancement and assistant vice president for advancement services. Dozier said this year’s campaign brought in $60,000 more than last year and that participation rates also were higher, with 1,089 people giving compared to 961 last year.

“To each of you who made a donation through payroll deduction, sent in a check or credit card gift or attended a fund-raising event, thank you,” said President James Ramsey in an e-mail to staff and faculty.

“Your generosity is truly appreciated by the thousands of children, students and adults in our area who benefit from these organizations.”

Donation totals (rounded to the nearest dollar) were:
Metro United Way: $172,739
Fund for the Arts: $33,813
WHAS Crusade for Children: $46,097
UofL: $81,881

Ramsey said he was particularly proud of the strong support for Metro United Way, which surpassed the $146,000 goal by more than $26,000.

“UofL is truly a great place to work because of caring people like you, and I am proud to be associated with such an incredible group of staff and faculty,” he said.
