University Theatre announces 2007-08 season

2007-08 theater season
First play opens Sept. 26
All begin at 8 p.m. with additional 3 p.m. Sunday matinees. The Playhouse is at 1911 S. Third St., and Thrust Theater is at 2314 S. Floyd St.
Season tickets are $50 for the general public, $45 for U of L employees and people 65 and older, and $35 for students. Individual show tickets are $12 for the general public or $8 for faculty, staff, students and senior citizens. For tickets, call 502-852-6814.
A William Shakespeare tragedy, a Stephen Sondheim musical comedy and two African American theater productions will be among plays offered at the University of Louisville in 2007-08.
Here’s a brief overview:
- “Interrogating the Nude,” by Doug Wright deconstructs the Marcel Duchamp’s cubist masterpiece, “Nude Descending a Staircase,” Playhouse, Sept. 26–30.
- “Cage Rhythm,” an African American Theatre production of Kia Corthron’s play introduces a group of incarcerated women who must maintain their humanity while confronting race, class and gender inequities, Thrust Theater, Oct. 17–21.
- “Angels in America, Part I,” Tony Kushner’s epic weaves the lives of his characters into a nexus of social, sexual and political revelations, Playhouse, Nov. 14–18.
- “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” the music of Stephen Sondheim follows the bawdy pursuits of a slave to win his freedom, Playhouse, Jan. 30–Feb. 3.
- “Titus Andronicus,” William Shakespeare’s early tragedy focuses on a fictional Roman general and the confrontation with his stalwart enemy Tamora, queen of the Goths, Thrust Theater, Feb. 27–March 2.
- “The Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God,” an African American Theatre production of Djanet Sears’ play about a country doctor who struggles to make sense of the death of her child, the disintegration of her marriage and her eccentric father’s astonishing crusade, Playhouse, April 16–20.
