Alumni, students invited to Big East E-Fair

UofL has joined 15 other Big East Conference colleges and universities to launch a career fair website for students and alumni interested in pursuing or advertising entry-level or experienced career opportunities and internships with organizations who place a high priority on promoting a diverse culture in their workplace. Register for the site to either look for positions or advertise openings in your company. The site will remain active till Dec. 31. Cosponsored by the UofL Career Development Center. University honors 2009 Parents of the Year

The Dydas

After UofL student Arielle Dyda's father died of cancer in 2008, her mother, Judy Dyda, worked three jobs to support her family. Arielle had the opportunity to honor her mother and late father when they were named the 2009 Parents of the Year as part of UofL's Family Weekend activities. UofL recognized the Dydas for their commitment to their daughter's success.

 
 
 
 

Tailgate and tickets packages available

The UofL Alumni Association has a limited number of game tickets to the UofL vs. Syracuse (Nov. 14) and Rutgers (Nov. 27) games at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. For $20, get a game ticket and $5 worth of "alumni bucks" to spend on food and drinks at the tailgate, which begins three hours before kickoff and features a rock-climbing wall, music, games, $1 drinks and $1 dogs. A Christmas Story

Looking for new holiday recipes? The Alumni Association's Nov. 16 cooking class focuses on party foods for the holiday season. On Nov. 22, enjoy a matinee of "A Christmas Story" with Ralphie at Actors Theatre at a discounted price. The Friday after Thanksgiving, the Alumni Association hosts its annual fall Alumni Day at the Races. Find more info on these and other November alumni events online.

 
 
 
 

New health sciences building opens

Health Sciences Building

UofL opened its newest health sciences research building Oct. 12. The nearly 300,000-square-foot Clinical and Translational Research Building houses researchers who explore how to prevent, treat and cure diseases that affect people worldwide. Located at the corner of South Hancock and East Muhammad Ali Boulevard, the building is the largest construction project to be completed in Louisville this year.

 
 
 
 

UofL certified as good neighbor

Earlier this year UofL learned its outreach efforts had earned it a place on the Carnegie Foundation's top "community engagement" schools list. Now the "Saviors of Our Cities: A Survey of Best College and University Civic Partnerships," a new study from the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities, recognizes our collaborations with community leaders to improve the area.

 
 
 
 

WHAS Crusade grants help UofL help children

Children with special needs will benefit from more than $500,000 in grants UofL is receiving this year from the WHAS Crusade for Children. They will support several programs focused on helping kids. Since the WHAS Crusade for Children began in 1954, it has awarded UofL more than $18 million.

 
 
 
 

Scholar House turns one

Scholar House

Oct. 6 marked the first anniversary of the Gladys and Lewis "Sonny" Bass Louisville Scholar House Campus at UofL. The $13.8 million facility provides affordable apartments, education and childcare for low-income, single-parent families working on college degrees. Scholar House is at full capacity.

 
 
 
 

Red goes green

Green Doorms

UofL has tied with Berea College as Kentucky's top "green" school in a ranking of eco-friendly practices. The Sustainable Endowments Institute list included more than 330 schools in the United States and Canada. In other eco-news at UofL, students Anna Roeder and Katy Hartman are taking UofL's first green residence hall room for a test drive to determine what works and what doesn't in sustainable housing.

 
 
 
 

Dental School renovation begins

An Oct. 9 groundbreaking signaled the beginning of a two-year renovation project at the UofL School of Dentistry. The project will add more than 20,000 square feet and renovate another 200,000 square feet, plus improve infrastructure, equipment and clinical education support.

Men's basketball kicks off with doubleheader

UofL Basketball

UofL opens its men's basketball season Nov. 17 against Arkansas in the Hall of Fame Showcase at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Men's soccer clinches Big East Red Division title

Men's soccer defeated host Villanova 5-0 on Oct. 31 to secure its place atop the Big East Conference Red Division. The Cards set a new school record for wins and earned their first conference regular season title in program history.
